Mechanical enclosures

Give your electronics a considered physical home. Enclosure planning connects board fit, access, mounting and the environment your product will operate in.

Project scope

Built around your requirements.

These are areas to discuss in your brief. Final scope, feasibility and timing depend on your specific design and requirements.

  • Enclosure design requirements
  • PCB mounting and connector access
  • Material and fabrication planning
  • Assembly and serviceability review

Before we begin

What to share.

A clear handoff

Agree the outcome.

Align dimensions, material, finish and fabrication requirements, with a fit-review stage before committing to the final enclosure.

What should an enclosure brief include?

Include board size, mounting points, connector openings, interface positions and operating conditions. Mention ventilation, ingress protection or safety requirements if relevant; these need explicit review rather than assumptions.

Process / Mechanical

From requirements to an agreed handoff.

01

Define fit and access

Collect board dimensions, mounting locations, connector positions and user-interface details.

02

Review the operating environment

Discuss materials, finish, ventilation and fabrication requirements alongside how the product will be assembled and serviced.

03

Agree a fit-review stage

Set drawing or CAD handoff formats and identify the review needed before committing to the final enclosure.

Deliverables to agree

Define what changes hands.

  • Agreed dimensional, material and finish requirements
  • Mounting and connector-access requirements
  • Drawing or CAD formats and fit-review milestones

Quality review

Make acceptance specific.

Set the review method and evidence required for these project-specific checks.

  • Board clearances and mounting alignment
  • Connector openings and interface access
  • Assembly sequence, ventilation and serviceability requirements

Scope boundaries

Materials, tolerances, fabrication methods and environmental ratings require review. Ingress protection, thermal performance and safety are not implied by enclosure design.

Common questions

Before you enquire.

Can I request an IP-rated enclosure?

State the target rating and operating conditions in the brief. The design approach and evidence required to support that rating need explicit review; no rating is assumed.

Why review fit before fabrication?

A fit review helps identify mismatched mounting points, connector access and assembly clearances before final enclosure decisions are committed. Agree how that review will be carried out.
