Assembly / Finetune
PCB assembly
From a first working board to your next production run. A focused assembly service built around your design, components and testing requirements.
Discuss this service
Project scope
Built around your requirements.
These are areas to discuss in your brief. Final scope, feasibility and timing depend on your specific design and requirements.
- Surface-mount (SMT) assembly
- Through-hole (THT) assembly
- Mixed-technology builds
- Prototype and production enquiries
Before we begin
What to share.
- 01Gerber and drill files with board revision
- 02Bill of materials with manufacturer part numbers
- 03Pick-and-place data and assembly drawings
- 04Quantity, component supply plan and test requirements
A clear handoff
Agree the outcome.
Agree the assembly scope, component responsibility, inspection requirements and handoff documentation before the build begins.
What is the difference between turnkey and consigned assembly?
With turnkey assembly, sourcing is part of the agreed project scope. With consigned assembly, you supply the boards and components. Mixed sourcing can also be discussed. Specify which approach you need in your enquiry.
Process / Assembly
From requirements to an agreed handoff.
Review the build pack
Identify the board revision, assembly drawings, placement data and BOM to use for the build. Flag conflicting revisions and missing part numbers.
Agree supply and assembly
Separate customer-supplied boards and parts from sourcing requirements. Identify SMT, through-hole and mixed-technology stages in the brief.
Define acceptance
Specify inspection, functional-test requirements and the documentation needed at handoff before confirming the build.
Deliverables to agree
Define what changes hands.
- An agreed board revision and assembly scope
- A component-responsibility list and approved substitutions
- Inspection, test and handoff documentation requirements
Quality review
Make acceptance specific.
Set the review method and evidence required for these project-specific checks.
- Component orientation and polarity requirements
- Assembly drawing and BOM consistency
- Test procedure, fixtures and pass/fail criteria
Scope boundaries
Board complexity, package types, quantities and turnaround require review. Do not assume automated inspection, electrical testing, certification or a particular production capacity is included.
Common questions
Before you enquire.
Is functional testing included?
Testing needs an agreed procedure, equipment or fixture requirements, and pass/fail criteria. List these in the enquiry; assembly alone does not define functional-test coverage.
Can parts be substituted?
Identify approved alternatives or a no-substitution rule in the BOM. Compatibility and approval must be settled before changing a specified part.
